Digital Exhibition: Leveling Up with OmekaS and Collaboration
At the University of Utah Marriott Library, two departments collaborated to build a digital exhibits program.  Digital Library Services provides technical expertise and experience with item level metadata and Special Collections provides primary source documents, historical context, and depth of knowledge of exhibit topics. Collaborative exhibits workflows and documentation will be discussed, along with a brief demonstration of the OmekaS software platform.

Virtual Reference Power Boost: Conducting a Chat Transcript Analysis at Utah State University
Chat reference at USU Libraries has decreased since introducing the service. In order to understand this trend, we analyzed a year’s worth of chat transcripts from August 2016 to August 2017. In addition to examining the types and timing of patron questions, we coded qualities of the chat interactions themselves. We will share how the results of our analysis might inform future changes to the chat reference service and staff training in an effort to “level up” the library’s virtual reference.

www.What?: First-Year Students' Internet Source Evaluation Habits
As librarians, we were curious how well first-year students evaluated sources, so we conducted a study on source evaluation habits. We wondered if grammar and website design were more important to students than a source’s author, or if previous experience outweighed fact checking in determining source validity? Come find out what students say is important in evaluation vs. what they actually do and reflect on teaching source evaluation behaviors.

A Family-Friendly Study Space
In March 2015, HBLL personnel began creating a family-friendly study space within the library. The space now includes features such as a lactation area for nursing mothers, play structures, books, toys, study rooms, study tables, two family-friendly restrooms, and computers. The room will be available for any BYU student or staff member to use, regardless of parental status. We hope to inspire other higher-education libraries to consider and to potentially champion the space needs of this important and rising population of students.

Taking Advantage of Your Friends (of the Library) or How to Extend Library Hours Without a Budget
Students at Southern Utah University (SUU) continually request additional library hours. They’ve been especially eager for the library to be open more during the end of the semester, yet, with limited staffing & shrinking budgets, this had not been possible. In 2016, the SUU Library’s Friends of the Library group became aware of these requests and offered to provide staffing beyond the library’s typical closing times. Our talk will highlight how this unique partnership has benefited our campus.
